Leipzig want to retain PSG loanee Xavi Simons

Dutch international midfielder Xavi Simons (20) is making a big impression at RB Leipzig. The former Barcelona youth product has already logged three goals and four assists in five Bundesliga games with Marco Rose’s squad.

Before heading to Leipzig on loan on the back of a breakout season at PSV Eindhoven, Paris Saint-Germain triggered their €6m buy-back clause this summer to bring Simons back to the French capital. The Dutch attacking midfielder signed a four-year deal with Les Parisiens, effectively tying him until 2027.

Simons is expected to report back to PSG next summer because his loan move to Leipzig does not include a permanent option. Nevertheless, RB Leipzig Sporting director Max Eberl would be very keen to extend Simons’ stay in Saxony beyond 2024. “It is clear we intend to extend [his deal], in the best-case scenario“, said Eberl to Kicker. Xavi has made a very good start and he’s on his way to delivering a very good campaign. I believe we are binding him emotionally to RB Leipzig. We’re trying to get him to stay with us next summer.”
