Marseille fans banned from travelling for Nice fixture due to national security concerns

Olympique de Marseille fans will be banned from making the trip to face OGC Nice on Saturday, with the current national security concerns cited as the primary reason behind the decision.

Once again, the match between Nice and Marseille, set to be held at the Allianz Riviera on Saturday night, will not feature away fans, as per a report from RMC SportOM’s fans will be banned from the stadium itself, as well as the surrounding area. An official announcement from the local authorities is expected soon.

The current national security context has been cited as the reason for the decision. Security forces are expected to be occupied by many protests across the country this weekend, relating to the current Israel-Gaza conflict. Pro-Palestine protests have been banned in the country.

France is also in a state of emergency following the assassination of a teacher, Dominique Bernard, in Arras. There was also extra security for France’s match against Scotland earlier this week due to the suspected terrorist attack in Brussels, where a gunman killed two Swedish football fans ahead of Sweden’s match against Belgium.
