Paris Saint-Germain are “worried” about the presence of Palestine flags during their upcoming match at the Parc des Princes against RC Strasbourg Alsace, according to L’Équipe.
The Virage Auteuil, the stand where many of PSG’s ultras are situated, will be closed for Saturday’s match against Strasbourg due to homophobic chanting during their 4-0 victory over rivals Olympique de Marseille in September. The Auteuil stand notably houses the Collectif Ultras Paris (CUP), an ideologically pro-Palestinian group. Whilst they won’t be in their usual position behind the goal, many CUP members have bought tickets elsewhere in the Parc des Princes and the club is fearful of the presence of Palestinian flags around the stadium.
The LFP have called for a minute’s silence, to be held at all Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 matches this weekend, to be respectfully observed. The silence is in tribute to a teacher murdered in Arras, the two Swedish fans killed in Brussels, and the victims of the ongoing Israel-Gaza conflict.
