On Wednesday, Ligue 2 outfit SM Caen announced the passing of head coach Stéphane Moulin’s wife, Armelle Moulin, after a battle with illness. After their French Cup game against FC Vire on the 21st of December, Moulin took a leave of absence to be with his wife at her bedside. Whilst he has been gone, assistant Patrice Sauvaget has taken the reins, during which time Caen have registered a loss and two draws in the league against Bastia, Saint-Étienne, and Bordeaux respectively.
In order to attend Armelle’s funeral on Saturday morning, Caen wanted to move forward its Ligue 2 gameweek 19 match away at Sochaux to Friday evening. Ligue 2 and broadcaster beIN Sports accepted the request. But Ouest-France report that Sochaux have refused it. Hence, Sochaux’s Ligue 2 tie with Caen will be played Saturday at 3 pm CET, as originally planned, at the Stade Bonal.
In a statement, Sochaux said they would have liked to grant Caen’s wish to move the game forward, but Les Lionceaux claimed resulting organisational issues, such as the hiring of safety personnel on short notice, made it impossible to do so. A moment of silence will take place before kick-off.
