Before facing Newcastle United in the Champions League, a toothless Paris Saint-Germain have been held to an away goalless draw at relegation-battling Clermont. AS Monaco have reclaimed Ligue 1’s top spot following their thrilling 3-2 home win against Gennaro Gattuso’s Olympique de Marseille.
Strasbourg 0 – 1 Lens
The Artois side have sealed their second consecutive league win in a row courtesy of Elye Wahi’s first goal with his new side. Franck Haise’s team is steadily improving after a disastrous start of the season. It remains to be seen just how much Lens would put up a fight against a rampant Arsenal side on Tuesday in the Champions League.

Clermont 0 – 0 PSG
Luis Enrique’s Les Parisiens missed the opportunity to temporarily take Ligue 1’s top spot after failing to find cracks in a frail Clermont side. Both goalkeepers – Mory Diaw and Gianluigi Donnarumma – shone through. PSG will need to step up this week as the latter brings two difficult away games, at Newcastle United on Wednesday and then at Rennes on Sunday.
Monaco 3 – 2 Marseille
Despite a significant number of injured players, Adi Hütter’s side have reclaimed Ligue 1’s top spot in inflicting Gennaro Gattuso his first defeat as Marseille manager. Folarin Balogun’s first Monaco goal at Stade Louis-II and a brace from promising youth product Maghnes Akliouche cancelled out Iliman Ndiaye’s and Samuel Gigot’s early goals. Marseille fell to 12th place.

Reims 2 – 0 Lyon
Olympique Lyonnais’ crisis reached new depths in losing to plucky Will Still’s Reims. Les Gones are the only side in Europe’s top 5 leagues to have never led a game this season. Fabio Grosso’s team are bottom of the league. After winning away at Lille on Tuesday, the Champagne side have rocked up to third place courtesy of goals from stalwarts Marshall Munetsi and Yunis Abdelhamid.

Le Havre 0 – 2 Lille
Les Dogues brushed themselves off with a convincing performance against the promoted side. Edon Zhegrova’s rocket before half-time rewarded the visitors. Le Havre centre-back Yoann Salmier scored an own goal in the second half. Lille will travel to the Faroe Islands to face Klaksvik on Thursday in the Europa Conference League group stage. On Sunday, Paulo Fonseca’s 7th-placed side lock horns against Northern rivals Lens.

Toulouse 3 – 0 Metz
Before hosting LASK in the Europa League group stage, Toulouse delivered their best performance so far this season in dominating a limited Metz side. Niklas Schmidt, Thijs Dallinga and Frank Magri all found the back of Alexandre Oukidja’s net. The Lorraine side conceded their second defeat in a row.
Lorient 0 – 3 Montpellier
Les Merlus have fallen to 16th place after losing three of their last four Ligue 1 games. Nigerian Montpellier centre-forward Akor Adams scored a classy brace to bring his tally to five strikes since the start of the season, going level with Nantes’ Mostafa Mohamed and second only to PSG striker Kylian Mbappé.

Rennes 3 – 1 Nantes
Bruno Genesio’s side returned to winning ways after five league draws on the bounce at the best possible moment in winning the Breton derby against Les Canaris. Nantes midfielder Pedro Chirivella restored parity after Benjamin Bourigeaud’s early opener from the spot. Les Rouge et Noir regained their lead through Désiré Doué, who was being monitored by a Real Madrid scout. Arnaud Kalimuendo scored a penalty in the dying minutes. Nantes forward Mostafa Mohamed is facing a suspension after going berserk just in front of referee Ruddy Buquet’s face.
