Official | Ajax sign Georges Mikautadze from Metz

Ajax have completed the signing of Georgian international forward Georges Mikautadze (22). The Eredivisie side have announced that they have paid FC Metz €16m for the striker, which could increase to €19m through variables. Mikautadze has signed a five-year deal with the Dutch club.

Mikautadze’s departure is a huge blow for Metz. Although the Georgian’s departure was taken into account during the Ligue 1 club’s meeting with the DNCG, there was hope of finding a financial solution to allow them to keep Mikautadze. However, there was always an expectation that he would leave, and as reported by L’Équipe, his departure video has been sitting in drafts all summer.

His departure has now been confirmed, just days before the closure of the transfer window. Mikautadze featured in all three of Metz’s Ligue 1 matches this season. He scored against Olympique de Marseille, securing a point at the Vélodrome, before scoring the winner against Clermont Foot last weekend. During his time at Metz, Mikautadze played 45 games, scoring 26 goals and registering 10 assists.
