Lens’ Stijn Spierings linked with shock imminent return to Toulouse

RC Lens midfielder Stijn Spierings (27) is being linked with a shock imminent return to Toulouse FC, who left on a free transfer earlier in the summer, according to AFP and Mohamed Toubache-Ter

Spierings thrived at Toulouse, however, this hasn’t been the case since his summer move. The former Dutch youth international has featured in all four of Lens’ matches this season in what has been a poor start for Franck Haise’s side. Lens are 17th in Ligue 1 having earned just one point so far.

Spierings has been one of the most disappointing performers in the side, especially given his performances for a Coupe de France-winning Toulouse side last season. An imminent departure could even be on the cards, according to AFP journalist Laurent Mazure. A return to Toulouse on loan, through exploiting the ‘joker’ system, is on the cards. Toubache-Ter adds that the Dutchman has struggled to integrate at Lens and has revealed discussions between Toulouse’s Damien Comolli and the Lens board.
