Nice advise supporters against travelling to Moldova for Sheriff Tiraspol tie

Nice have published a statement this morning advising their supporters against travelling to Moldova this week for their Conference League last 16 tie against Sheriff Tiraspol next Thursday, highlighting the security concerns that have been raised in the country as a result of tensions with Russia.

The club has in any case put the tickets allocated to them on sale, but pointed out that should the match be called behind closed doors at the last minute – as was the case for Tiraspol’s game against Partizan Belgrade – they will be refunded. The match is due to take place in Chișinău, the Moldovan capital, where UEFA have moved the club’s European games to since last summer.

Les Aiglons add that the French authorities have, since July of last year, advised all citizens against travel to Transnistria – the Russia-backed breakaway region, internationally recognised as part of Moldova, where Sheriff are based – in the wake of tensions ignited by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
