Speaking on Rothen S’enflamme, OGC Nice captain Dante (39), who recently signed a contract extension that ties him to Les Aiglons until 2024, said that the squad would be happy should Didier Digard remain in charge of the club next season.
Digard’s future as manager of the club is uncertain. The former Middlesborough midfielder was initially brought in on an interim basis to replace Lucien Favre in January, and following a good run of form, was handed the job until the end of the season.
However, Le Gym have since experienced a drop in form, which leaves them out of contention for the European places, whilst the club also suffered a disappointing exit from the UEFA Europa Conference League at the hands of FC Basel. RMC Sport have previously reported that Digard won’t be in charge at the Allianz Riviera next season, adding that Lille OSC manager Paulo Fonseca is on the shortlist of potential replacements.
However, Dante says that the squad would be happy to have Digard in charge next season. “He’s a guy who exudes calmness, despite his age. He has done us good and has managed to create a close group. If he stays, we will all be happy. The whole team has a lot of respect for him,” he said.
