FT: PSG 1-1 Valencia (3-2 agg): PSG progress to the quarters for the first time in 18 years. Large celebrations from all the PSG players. A poor performance tonight, but they got the result they needed. Still looked weary after the 1-0 loss to Reims at the weekend. Will need to improve in the next round. Valencia got a bit unlucky, but lacked a cutting pass or ball in and therefore are knocked out of this year’s competition.

21:35: Banega books for a frustrated tackle on Lavezzi

21:33: We are into the 90! PSG are currently heading through, but anything can happen. It is the first leg performance that looks to have won it. Not the poor second leg one tonight. 3 minutes added on

21:31: Banega plays a ball in behind the PSG back four for the onrushing Soldado. The player is offside though. Good idea.

21:29: Valencia dominating, but PSG looking happy to sit back and invite Valencia on to them. Been fairly solid at the back tonight. Van der Wiel has not had his best game though.

21:27: Sakho on for Lucas. Very defensive. Beckham will therefore NOT feature tonight.

21:23: Valencia with a string of corners. They are all headed out, but the pressure is building. Soldado also booked for dissent.

21:19: Nelson Valdez is on for goalscorer Jonas for Valencia to try to give them some more attacking impetus.

21:16: STAT: PSG have had 7 out of their 8 shots on target

21:14: Valencia straight back up the other end and win a corner…..headed clear

21:10 GOAL PSG: 1-1. Gamiero beats three defenders due to a lucky rebound, and although his shot is well saved, it rebounds to Lavezzi, who tucks it home. PSG have truly woken up. It doesn’t change too much for either team, but PSG will be very pleased to have got the goal. Lavezzi book for the celebration. Suddenly a good game!

21:08: Awful ball from Mathieu allows Matuidi to play a ball through towards Lucas, but the keeper comes out to punt it clear just in time.

21:07: Feghouli off for Piatti for Valencia. Straight swap. Providing fresh legs and a bit more pace.

21:04: PSG starting to control the game a bit better now. It is as if that goal has woken them up!

21:00: PSG take Motta off for Gamiero (making his Champions League debut). Shows real attacking intent.

20:58: GOAL VALENCIA: I spoke too soon. Valencia take the ball off PSG in the midfield (Matuidi with the mistake) and Jonas fires home from the edge of the box. Sirigu could do nothing. Game on. The player was not closed down quickly enough. 0-1 Sloppy from PSG. Valencia on a high now.

20:56: Its been all Valencia so far this half, but no good chance yet. PSG continuing to look very poor, but I just cant see Valencia scoring at the moment. PSG’S defence is very strong and Valencia have not shown any signs of breaking it down.

20:53: Chantome doing absolutely nothing for PSG at the moment. Beckham’s entrance drawing near….?

20:48: Banega coming on for the booked Albelda at half time. I have been told that Banega has been very good for Valencia so far this season. Lets see if he can make the desired impact tonight.

20:46: Just a minute or so before we get back underway here in Paris.

20:40: You would have to say that PSG are still big favourites to progress tonight, but they have no target man. Lucas looks the only person who can create something special.

20:33: HT: PSG 0:0 Valencia: A poor half for the neutral. Neither team can find an end product. PSG look disjointed and confused about what to do without Ibra. Valencia have been the better team, but Soldado has not got on the ball enough. Get the impression that set pieces might be the best chances for goals tonight. Both teams have been poor so far. You have to admire Valencia for coming to Paris and going for it, however. They are stopping PSG from playing their usual attacking game.

20:32: PSG now with their best chance of the half. Freekick on the edge of the box after Matuidi was tripped. Alex to strike it. Wins a corner

20:31: Sirigu punches one away for a corner and Pastore almost heads the ball into his own net from the resulting corner.

20:30: …..Van der Wiel heads it away.

20:29: Valencia with a chance to whip the ball in just before half time. good chance here…….

20:26: Thiago Motta gets trodden on. Looks painful, but the player gets back up.

20:24: Comes to nothing, put PSG win another freekick in the same region which is taken short

20:22: PSG getting better now. Pastore hits a tame shot at the keeper, before Victor Ruiz goes in the box for taking Matuidi out. Chance to whip a ball in.

20:16: PSG still not clicking. Their passes are going astray and they are not getting on the ball enough. They do not appear to be playing their natural attacking game. Valencia could definitely get a result tonight!

20:12: Early change for PSG. Jallet off for Van der Wiel. Jallet hobbles off. Big shame for the player. Van der Wiel gets another chance to prove himself.

20:08: Matuidi is floored on the half way line. Albelda goes in the book

20:06: Tino Costa whips a lovely ball in, but nobody in White is there to meet it. Pressure on PSG starting to build

20:04: Lucas and Jallet lacking communication down this right hand side as another pass goes astray.

20:01: Jonas and Soldado combine, as Jonas plays his colleague in after a lovely one-two. Soldado beats Thiago Silva, but puts a tame effort straight at Sirigu.

19:58: Lucas dances past four Valencia players with ease before being stopped by Mathieu. Looks like he is going to be PSG’s main threat tonight. Valencia can’t cope with his pace or skill.

19:56: Quick feet from Lucas beats the defenders all ends up. He scuffs his shot wide across the box though. PSG looking slightly better so far, but no end product as yet.

19:55: Thiago Motta is down with a head injury. Collided with teammate Alex in the opposition box. Just getting up now

19:53: Jonas is played through on goal, but Jallet recovers well to make a great last man challenge. Jonas skies the resulting chance high and wide.

19:52: Guaita needs a big game between the sticks tonight. Had a very poor first leg. He will be out to prove a point.

19:50: It falls to Pastore, unmarked at the back post, but his shot can only force a corner.

19:49: PSG win a freekick on the right hand side of the box. Good chance to whip a ball in.

19.46: We are UNDERWAY.

19.45: Teams out, Champions League anthem sung, coin toss complete…

19.44: Tennis player David Ferrer among many celebrities wishing Valencia a good game via Twitter.

19.42: Thiago Silva is captaining PSG tonight.

19.41: Vieira, Pires and Grimandi all here tonight. A bit of an Arsenal reunion going on.

19.36: One would predict that Valencia will start this game fairly cautiously. An early PSG goal and it is probably curtains for the Spaniards.

19.33: Despite the fact that Adil Rami misses out tonight, there are still 4 ex-Ligue 1 players in the Valencia starting XI.

19.31: Jeremy Menez has still to recover from the injury he received during PSG’s Coupe de France win over Marseille and therefore is out of the squad completely.

19.29: Marco Verratti and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are suspended. The former for amassing the total yellow cards needed for a one match ban; while the latter’s appeal against the red card he received at the Mestalla 3 weeks ago failed and is likely to miss PSG’s next Champions League game if they are to progress tonight.

19.26: Thiago Silva and Thiago Motta come back into the PSG side after lengthy spells on the sidelines. PSG fans may be disappointed at the omission of Sakho from the starting XI, who played brilliantly when the sides met in Spain.

19.23: One piece of good news for Valencia fans is the fact that Andres Guardado does not feature at left-back or in fact in the starting XI today for the Spaniards. Arguably, he was the weak link for them in the 1st tie.

19.21: Thanks to the brilliant guys at Opta for the majority of those stats there. So it seems Carlo Ancelotti has gone for the ‘False 9’ sort of formation. Lucas Moura will be playing more centrally, and that will really frighten Valencia. They are playing Jeremy Mathieu, the right-back at centre back with Adil Rami out injured.

19.20: STAT: No French club has ever kept a clean sheet against Valencia in European competition (19 games).

19.20: STAT: PSG are unbeaten in their last 22 home games in European competition, a run dating back to 2006.

19.19: STAT: Ezequiel Lavezzi has scored 4 goals in his last 3 Champions League games.

19.17: STAT: Every time Valencia have lost the 1st leg of a Champions League knockout tie, they have not progressed.

19.16: STAT: This is PSG’s longest run in the Champions League since 1994-1995, when they reached the semi-finals.

19.15: Valencia Substitutes: Diego Alves, Joao Pereira, Ever Banega, Guardado, Canales, Piatti, Valdez.

19.13: PSG Substitutes: Douchez, Camara, Beckham, Gameiro, Sakho, Van der Wiel, Armand.

19.12: Valencia XI to face PSG: Guaita, Barragán, V.Ruiz, Mathieu, Cissokho, Albelda, T.Costa, Feghouli, D.Parejo, Jonas, Soldado.

19.12: PSG XI to face Valencia: Sirigu, Jallet, Alex, Thiago Silva, Maxwell, Matuidi, Thiago Motta, Chantome, Lucas, Pastore, Lavezzi.

19.07: So, PSG will look to put their shock 1-0 defeat away to Reims in Ligue 1 and deliver a confident performance to put them in the Champions League quarter-finals. Valencia need to score at least twice to have any chance of winning the tie. Teams to come.
