France national team boss Didier Deschamps revealed on Thursday his 23-man squad for the upcoming international break, which will see Les Bleus take on The Netherlands at Amsterdam on Friday October 13 and Scotland four days later.
Deschamps did not shuffle his deck regarding his midfielders. Real Madrid teammates Eduardo Camavinga and Aurélien Tchouaméni, Atlético de Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann, Juventus’ Adrien Rabiot, Aston Villa’s Boubacar Kamara and AS Monaco’s Youssouf Fofana have all been called up. Nevertheless, Deschamps looks ahead and considers that 17-year-old Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Warren Zaïre-Emery is on course to earn a maiden France call-up, should he continue to display his impressive current form with Les Parisiens.
Zaïre-Emery is the skipper of the Thierry Henry-led France U21 side and Deschamps was adamant he would not deprive his former France teammate of the PSG youth product. “What Warren does since the start of the season could, at first, be surprising. Evidently, I talk a lot with ‘Titi’ about what he does with the U21. And it’s potentially very interesting.“
Deschamps did not hide the fact that “WZE” is, as of today, in contention to be possibly included in France’s senior set-up. “He has an important role at PSG and with France’s U21 side. With us, he would have a more minor role. But the priority goes to Thierry and to the U21 side. But of course, if he carries on like this, he would be a serious contender to get a role in our midfield through his performances, achieved with a quite amazing maturity.“
