Bordeaux president Gérard Lopez: “We’ll have to make some transfers”

Following Bordeaux’s last minute approval to stay in Ligue 2, just days ahead of the start of the new season, the Girondins’ president Gérard Lopez spoke to FranceInfo about the consequences of the decision of the executive committee of the Fédération Française de Football. First of all, he expressed “relief” that their “rights have been respected.”

“The staff believed in it from the beginning so we worked relentlessly to prepare as best we could for the season. It’s true that we’re still not quite there. We’ll have to make some transfers, get rid of some players and bring in some new ones to be able to have the team that we want.”

“[Promotion] is the objective of the whole club. We’ll do everything for it but it’s certainly true that we’ve started on the backfoot. But it’s clear that we’re always going to do everything to try to put Bordeaux back where it belongs.”
