Arsenal reject Monaco bid for Folarin Balogun

The Athletic’s David Ornstein is reporting that Arsenal have turned down a written offer from AS Monaco for USMNT striker Folarin Balogun (22).

Monaco’s search for a striker is seemingly intensifying. The Principality club announced on Monday that Breel Embolo (26) would be out for several months due to a server UCL injury. In the wake of that news, Foot Mercato revealed that Monaco could reignite their interest in Elye Wahi (20) and Balogun. The latter had a prolific loan spell at Stade de Reims last season but has now returned to his parent club. The forward is insistent on first-team football next season – something that is not necessarily on offer with the Gunners.

Monaco have received a significant financial boost through the sale of Axel Disasi (25), who joined Chelsea for €45m last week. Following the rejection of a verbal offer for Balogun in the wake of Monaco’s friendly against Arsenal, an official offer has now been submitted. This offer has also been knocked back, however, talks continue with Thiago Scuro and Edu sharing a strong working relationship.

Inter Milan could rival Monaco for Balogun’s signature, but it is unclear whether the Serie A side have the financial means to pull off a deal.
