Lyon overcome fifth-tier Chambéry thanks to Alexandre Lacazette hat-trick

Lyon have booked their place for the Coupe de France last 16 thanks a victory over fifth-tier minnows Chambéry on Saturday (3-0). The Savoy side were the hosts but the game was relocated to OL’s Groupama Stadium. Chambéry came out of the blocks strongly and fearlessly, exposing cracks left and right in Lyon’s half of the pitch – unfortunately for the National 3 outfit, Lyon showed ruthlessness in their six-yard box. Playmaker Rayan Cherki (19) played through Tetê (22) who laid it on a plate for Alexandre Lacazette (31) to tap in from close range at the 11th minute.

The goal seem to unshackle Les Gones, who then dominated proceedings, although Chambéry really held their own. Lyon could cut open their opponents as they please and doubled their lead thanks to a carbon copy of the opener. Cherki found Tetê who, again, selflessly teed Lacazette for an easy goal past the half-hour mark.

As tiredness kicked in for the fifth-tier side in the second half, Lyon made it three. Promising left-winger Bradley Barcola (20) wrecked havoc and eliminated four Chambéry players before laying one up for the former Arsenal man to complete his hat-trick. Lyon did just enough to overcome Chambéry, who can hold their head high, and book their place for the Coupe de France last 16.
