Moussa Dembélé’s move to Everton unlikely after Frank Lampard departure

Foot Mercato are reporting that Moussa Dembélé’s (26) move from Olympique Lyonnais to Everton is now unlikely following the sacking of Frank Lampard.

Former Chelsea manager Lampard was sacked by Everton after a poor run of results leaves the Merseyside club in the relegation zone, level on points with bottom club Southampton. The subsequent sacking has repercussions for the recruitment of Dembélé, who had held talks with the English manager.

Lampard’s presence at the club was one of the fundamental reasons that Dembélé wanted to make the switch, and with him gone, a transfer now looks unlikely. Despite the French striker’s contract expiring in the summer, Everton were prepared to pay a fee for Dembélé this month, although negotiations were difficult, and an agreement was never reached.

It now looks like Dembélé will leave Les Gones on a free in the summer. Aston Villa are hoping to sign the player for free in the summer, however, other unnamed clubs also maintain an interest.
