Marseille in advanced talks with Marcelo Gallardo amid Paulo Fonseca interest

Having emerged as the favourite to replace Igor Tudor in the Marseille dugout, former River Plate manager Marcelo Gallardo is in advanced talks with the Ligue 1 side, but is not rushing to finalise his move according to La Provence today.

The 47-year-old, who turned out for both Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain in his playing days, would be bringing a 15-man coaching staff with him – an aspect which is ostensibly posing no issue to the Marseille upper management, as are Gallardo’s transfer demands.

However, Gallardo appears to be biding his time and is yet to give OM a definite response – potentially, because he is waiting to see if any other offers come in.

While the Argentine is the first-choice candidate for the job, the Marseille directors are also working on other potential options – notably, Lille’s Paulo Fonseca. The Portuguese manager’s entourage has confirmed to La Provence that Ligue 1’s third-placed side are interested – but that the former Roma and Shakhtar Donetsk coach is happy to stay at Lille.
