Official | Fabien Mercadal appointed SM Caen manager

SM Caen have today confirmed the appointment of Fabien Mercadal as their new manager after only one season at Paris FC.

The 46-year-old had enjoyed a somewhat successful campaign with the side from the capital last year and will replace Patrice Garande at the Stade Michel d’Ornano.

Mercadal led Paris FC to 8th in Ligue 2 last season, in the club’s first season in the second tier after they had been administratively promoted at the expense of Bastia who had been demoted for financial irregularities.

Caen president Gilles Sergent has paid testament to his new man at the helm, “At the end of our first meeting, I was convinced that he was the coach I needed at the Stade Malherbe…He is a leader of men, some who is charismatic and who has the experience of the role of being the no. 1”.

Caen will be hoping their new manager will bring increased stability to the Normandy-based side, who only confirmed survival on the last day of the season, courtesy of a home stalemate with champions PSG.
