Chilean international Alexis Sánchez (34) is reportedly nearing a move away from Marseille, according to a report from L’Équipe. The former Arsenal and Manchester United forward joined Marseille last summer on a one-year deal following the termination of his contract with Inter. Sánchez wasted no time in becoming a fan favourite at the Vélodrome, courtesy of his off-the-ball efforts, goal contributions and never-say-die attitude. Talks are underway between Les Phocéens and the player’s representative over a contract renewal, but they are at a standstill.
The French publication understands that Sánchez has already moved out of his Marseille house amid growing interest from Saudi Arabia. Marseille’s salary proposal to their most potent attacking player is lower than last year’s, because Les Phocéens have not qualified to the Champions League group stage. Marseille finished third last season, so they will need to play a qualifying round and a playoff in order to reach the group stage.
L’Équipe mentions that salary issues were the main reason why Bosnian wing-back Sead Kolašinac (30) left Marseille this month upon the expiry of his contract, to join Atalanta on a three-year deal worth €2m per year.
