PSG considering using Hugo Ekitike as a makeweight for Randal Kolo Muani’s transfer with Lens showing interest

PSG are considering using out-of-favour striker Hugo Ekitike (21) as a makeweight for the signing of Eintracht Frankfurt forward Randal Kolo Muani, according to a report this Wednesday from L’Equipe. The 21-year-old is one of the five PSG players – with Neymar, Marco Verratti, Renato Sanches and Juan Bernat – that were told by head coach Luis Enrique and Sporting Advisor Luís Campos on Wednesday that they are surplus to requirements for Les Parisiens.

The French publication understands that Ekitike was surprised when he learnt his fate, considering he was one of the very few attacking players that had a somewhat convincing pre-season for PSG in his eyes. L’Équipe adds that the PSG board would like to offer the former Stade de Reims player to Eintracht Frankfurt as a makeweight to ease Randal Kolo Muani’s potential transfer to the Parc des Princes. The ex-Nantes attacker and France international is keen on a move to PSG with both Bayern Munich and Manchester United dropping out of the race to his signing.

However, L’Équipe believes that Ekitike would rather stay in Ligue 1 and Champions League-competing RC Lens with the Artois side said to be interested in his profile. Lens are in the market for a centre-forward following the club-record sale of Loïs Openda to RB Leipzig. Middlesbrough free-scoring Chuba Akpom is also being considered.

As a result, PSG have notably accepted an offer from Everton for the player.
