Saint-Etienne striker Gaëtan Charbonnier suffers season-ending ACL injury

AS Saint-Etienne striker Gaëtan Charbonnier (34) has sustained a season-ending ACL injury, the club has announced. It is a bitter blow for Les Verts as Charbonnier has proven pivotal in their upturn in form recently. The former Brest forward had scored three goals and gave one assist in only seven games played with the Laurent Batlles-led side. Charbonnier seemed to have injured himself during Saint-Etienne’s win against relegation-battling rivals Dijon on Saturday. The 34-year-old left the Geoffroy-Guichard stadium on crutches, bearing bad news indeed for Saint-Etienne. The Forez club have announced that their forward suffered a serious sprain on his right knee with a torn anterior cruciate ligament. His season is over already.

Saint-Etienne recently climbed to 16th place in Ligue 2 and out of the 4-team relegation zone. Now, Les Verts will have to steer clear of a disastrous National relegation without their starting striker. Charbonnier took to Twitter to vent his disappointment, speaking about a hard blow: “I gave my all and found a bucnh of lads ready for battle in order to keep the club [in Ligue 2].
