Gaëtan Charbonnier voted January Player of the Month in Ligue 2

Long-time Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 striker, Gaëtan Charbonnier, was off to one of his best starts ever after scoring 3 goals and 1 assist in his first 5 matches with Saint-Étienne before unfortunately sustaining a season-ending ACL injury. However, the French forward did not end the season without some amount of success. It was announced by his club that he was given the award for not only one of the players involved in la plus belle action de Janvier (The most beautiful play of January), but the Player of the month for January in Ligue 2.

In fact, Gaëtan Charbonnier’s accomplishment equals Kylian Mbappé’s six UNFP Player of the Month Trophies. Les Verts’ number 10 collected 42% of the votes to beat Moïse Sahi Dion and Tony Mauricio. The former Brest forward is now 34-years-old and recovering from a major injury that will sideline him for well beyond the rest of the season. However, If ASSE are able to stay in Lgiue 2 he will have provided crucial contributions that led to points on the table.
