As reported by Sky Sports News and BBC Sport, OGC Nice owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is considering making an offer to buy a minority stake in Manchester United.
The INEOS owner has been engaged in an attempt to sign the Premier League club for almost a year. The Glazer family said in November 2022 that they would “explore strategic alternatives” leading to Ratcliffe, as well as Qatari Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani registering an interest. Both tabled bids of around £5bn.
Sheikh Jassim’s bid is for full control of the club, however, Ratcliffe said he wanted a majority stake. However, with both bids stalling and with no end in sight, Ratcliffe is now considering making a bid to secure a minority stake. This would allow the Glazers to retain a significant shareholding in the club.
Nice have experienced a largely successful start to the season. Francesco Farioli, who was hired in the summer, has led Les Aiglons to fourth place, one point behind table-topping AS Monaco.
