Official | OGC Nice to replace Rugby World Cup-worn pitch

OGC Nice have confirmed that they will urgently replace the pitch at the Allianz Riviera, described by captain Dante (39) as “the worst in Ligue 1.”

The state of the pitch was criticised both before and after Nice’s Ligue 1 fixture against Stade Brestois last weekend. Manager Francesco Farioli said that the state of the turf had “disturbed his sleep.” The Italian manager noted that the pitch had been one of the best in Ligue 1, however, the stadium hosted four Rugby World Cup matches in the space of just over a week. As a result, the pitch was significantly damaged, leading club captain Dante to describe it as “the worst in Ligue 1.”

Nice have now released a statement announcing that the pitch will be replaced before the next game match, against Olympique de Marseille on 21st October. The club began the statement by explaining how it was logistically impossible to replace the pitch before the match against Brest.

The pitch will be replaced in time for the arrival of Marseille, however. “Against Marseille, OGC Nice will be able to count on playing conditions that meet its expectations and ambitions,” read the press release.
