Sporting CP in talks with Montpellier to sign Joris Chotard

With Manuel Ugarte having left for Paris Saint-Germain at the start of the summer transfer window, Sporting CP have been looking to bring in a midfielder to make up for the Uruguayan’s departure. His replacement may come from the same league they sold the 22-year-old to.

According to Le Parisien this afternoon, the Lisbon-based side are in talks with Montpellier to sign Jotis Chotard, who has also attracted interest from clubs in Spain and Germany. The French youth international, who mainly operates as a defensive midfielder, has already completed four full seasons with La Paillade at just 21 years old.

Sporting CP have made a verbal offer to Montpellier worth €6m to sign the Frenchman – but the Ligue 1 side are sticking to their asking price of €10m. Despite talks between the two clubs, the Primeira Liga outfit are now also exploring other, potentially less expensive options to sign a midfielder.
