West Ham and Lens close to reaching agreement with Montpellier over Elye Wahi transfer

According to Fabrice Hawkins, West Ham United and RC Lens are nearing agreements with Montpellier HSC over the signing of Elye Wahi (20). The French U21 international is not part of the squad that travels to face Lyon on Saturday.

The final fee is expected to be between €35m and €40m with bonuses included. Wahi’s choice is still unknown but is expected to be made imminently. It was reported by Foot Mercato that Wahi wants to join the Hammers this summer. The Frenchman turned down the opportunity to sign for Chelsea because he was unconvinced of the project proposed by the West London club, according to RMC Sport . If Chelsea managed to secure the services of Wahi, they planned on loaning him to Strasbourg.

Eintracht Frankfurt have also held a long-standing interest in Wahi as a potential replacement for Randal Kolo-Muani. However, the German club are waiting to see what happens with their French forward before making an official bid. PSG are reportedly interested in bringing Kolo Muani to the Parc des Princes this summer. West Ham have identified Wahi as their potential replacement for Gianluca Scammaca who has left the club for Atalanta and Lens are looking to replace Loïs Openda who has joined RB Leipzig.
