Heatwave in France disrupts Ligue 1 fixtures

France is currently suffering from an extreme heatwave, with 40 degrees Celsius forecasted in the coming day for cities throughout the country, including Toulouse and Lyon. The high temperatures are expected to continue to soar across the country and have had their influence on the Ligue 1 calendar.

The French top flight usually hosts two fixtures on a Saturday evening at 16:00 pm and 20:00 pm BST (17:00 pm and 21:00 p.m. local time). However, with temperatures forecasted to reach 37 degrees, Saturday afternoon’s match between Lyon and Montpellier that was scheduled for 4 pm has been pushed back to a later 6 pm kick-off time.

Lyon v Montpellier isn’t the only Ligue 1 game to be affected this weekend. Monaco were set to host Strasbourg at the Stade Louis II at 16:05 pm BST on Sunday evening. However, as a result of the heatwave, the game has been postponed by the LFP to an 18:05 pm BST kick-off in the hope that it will be cooler.
