Nantes’ Alban Lafont out for two months with collapsed lung

Nantes goalkeeper Alban Lafont (24) has suffered a serious lung injury during Les Canaris‘ opening-day 2-1 loss at home against Toulouse. The Ligue 1 side have announced that the France international is set to miss several weeks of competition whilst L’Equipe understands that Lafont’s spell on the sidelines is set to last two months. The 24-year-old heavily collided with Toulouse’s Zakaria Aboukhlal and his left post during the visitors’ equalising goal.

Lafont was stretchered off and taken to hospital. On X, the former Fiorentina goalkeeper confirmed his injury was a serious one. FC Nantes confirmed that Lafont is suffering from a fractured rib and a pneumothorax (collapse of a lung). With Lafont entering his final year of contract and set to miss several weeks of action, it is not yet clear if Pierre Aristouy’s side will dip in the market for a goalkeeper. Meanwhile, backup goalkeeper Rémy Descamps is expected to fill in for Nantes’ away game at Lille next week.
