Official | Nantes sign Matthis Abline from Rennes on initial loan deal

Nantes have this afternoon announced the signing of 20-year-old French forward Matthis Abline on an initial loan from local rivals Rennes, with the deal including an option to make the move permanent at the end of the campaign. According to Ouest-France, this clause has been set at €6m.

The French youth international was reportedly the subject of interest from Championship sides, but will instead remain in Ligue 1 following his six-month loan spell at Auxerre in the latter half of last season.

Abline, who made his first-team debut for his formative side during the 2020/21 campaign, would go on to make a total of 25 appearances for Rennes. He spent the 21/22 season on loan at Le Havre, back when the Normans were still in Ligue 2. Despite playing a prominent role in the Bretons’ pre-season preparations, the attacker will instead be looking to carve out first-team opportunities with Les Canaris.
