In an interview with Téléfoot, William Saliba (22) spoke about what he needs to do to become a starter for France now that he has found himself as a regular pick within Didier Deschamps’ squads. The Arsenal centre-back has featured 10 times for Les Bleus but is yet to force his way into regular starting contention.
The 22-year-old has started for Les Bleus 5 times to date but has revealed he wants to be a regular starter for Didier Deschamps. When asked what he needs to do to start for Les Bleus, Saliba said “For the moment, I am a substitute. I have to fight and perform better if one day I want to start.” Within the interview, the French international also commented on the impact of his injury on Arsenal’s title chances last season.
Saliba was a starter in France’s most recent international match against Germany. Les Bleus were defeated 2-1 by a German side who found themselves managerless and in turmoil. The former Marseille loanee also played 17 minutes in France’s 2-0 victory against Ireland in the EURO 2024 qualifiers.
