Nantes’ Alban Lafont to extend contract

Nantes goalkeeper Alban Lafont (24) is set to sign a contract extension with Les Canaris, according to a report from L’Equipe.

Lafont is currently sidelined after sustaining a serious lung injury after colliding with his post during Nantes’ opening-day home 2-1 defeat to Toulouse. The former Fiorentina goalie is poised to return to contention in two months. Lafont’s injury meant that Nantes would have probably lost him on a free transfer next summer as the France international was entering his final year of contract.

Nantes entered into talks with Lafont over a contract extension and Les Canaris have proven convincing enough to tie their former captain with a new deal set to expire in 2027. In Lafont’s absence, back-up goalkeeper Rémy Descamps is filling in between the Nantes’ sticks. Lafont was in the stands at La Beaujoire on Friday night to witness his side gaining a point against Marseille.
